William Carvalho was awarded the SJPF Player of the Month for March today beating Benfica’s Rodrigo and Lima.
The award marks Carvalho’s 5th SJPF award of the season. The imperial midfielder was voted young player for August / September and October / November as well as winning player of the month for October / November, December and now March.
William Carvalho’s fantastic season continues as he wins his second SJPF Player of the Month award on the bounce and his third SJPF award in a row.
All three of the Player of the Month awards have been given to Sporting players now after Fredy Montero scooped up the first award for August / October. William Carvalho however won the SJPF Young Player of the Month award that month.
For December’s award William Carvalho beat out competition from teammate Adrien Silva and Porto’s Carlos Eduardo.
Elsewhere William Carvalho, André Martins and Cédric Soares were nominated for the Young Player of the Month award too but Paulo Oliveira for Vitória de Guimarães was the eventual winner.
Nuno Reis and Ricardo Esgaio were also nominated for the Young Player of the Month award in the Segunda Liga but lost out to Vítor Bruno of Penafiel.
Not long after being named the player of the month for October / November, William Carvalho finds himself with another award winning the SJPF Young Player of the Month just days after winning the corresponding senior award.
The Portugal midfielder has now also been named the young player of the month for October / November. The last person to win both awards was Rui Patrício back in April 2011.
This now becomes the 3rd SJPF award William Carvalho has won this season.
Elsewhere Cédric Soares was 3rd placed in the young player of the month award whilst 3rd placed in the young player of the month award for for the Segunda Liga.
William Carvalho has unsurprisingly won the SJPF Player of the Month award for October and November.
After another string of superb performances the midfielder beat competition, including team Adrien Silva, to win the award. This coming after previously winning the award for Young Player of the Month for August / September (Fredy Montero won the senior awards for those months).
William Carvalho won the award with 23% of the vote and will be presented with the trophy before the game against Belenenses at the Alvalade.
There could still be more glory for Sporting’s players with the SJPF yet to announce the winners of the young awards. Indeed, William Carvalho could complete a double by winning the Young Player of the Month Award as well.
After having several players in the running for the SJPF Young Player of the Month awards for the Primeira Liga and Segunda Liga, there are also Sporting players nominated for the senior awards.
William Carvalho (who was nominated for the Young Player of the Month award) and Adrien Silva both feature in the Primeira Liga Player of the Month nominees. They face competition from Luís Leal (Estoril), Ricardo (Académica), Eduardo Gottardi (Nacional) and Fredy (Belenenses).
Meanwhile in the Segunda Liga Ricardo Esgaio, who was again nominated in the young player category, is nominated alongside Ricardo Janota (Viseu), Dieguinho (Beira-Mar), Calé (Tondela), Rambé and Ubay Luzardo (Farense).
Sporting are again receiving recognition in the SJPF (Sindicato dos Jogadores Profissionais de Futebol) awards with William Carvalho, Cédric Soares, Ricardo Esgaio and Iuri Medeiros all nominated for various awards.
Cédric Soares and, man of the moment, William Carvalho are both nominated for SJPF Young Player of the Month awards for October and November. They face competition from Fredy, Filipe Ferreira (both Belenenses), Paulinho and Luís Martins (both from next weekends opponents, Gil Vicente).

No surprises to see Fredy Montero named as the best player by the SJPF for the months of August and September.
The richly deserved award will be presented to Montero at Sporting’s next home league game, which is against Marítimo on the 3rd November. The Colombian forward won the award with an impressive 41.54% of the vote.
The official club website has some quotes from the player himself: “I am very happy and thankful because I know that this is recognition of my work. However, this is not just my award, but I share it with all of my teammates and the entire technical team, who have worked a lot. We want to do things well and look at the championship game by game”
Following behind Fredy Montero was William Carvalho, who won best young player, with 9.96% and finally third was Porto’s Jackson Martínez who had 7.6% of the vote.
The SJPF (Sindicato dos Jogadores Profissionais de Futebol), the Portuguese football player’s union, announced the winner for the Young Player award for August and September.
