SPORTING B 2-4 Fafe

Sporting B failed to hold on to their half-time lead to lose 2-4 against Fafe at the Academia Sporting, Ronaldo Tavares and Pedro Marques scored the goals for João de Deus’ side.

Sporting played their best football in the first half. Ronaldo Tavares got the lead in the 33rd minute after some excellent individual work.

The visitors improved after the break and drew level early on in the second-half through Ferrinho.

Then, two goals in as many minutes gave Fafe the win. First through Evandro Brandão and then Leandro Borges.

Late in the game João de Deus handed a debuts to the Azerbaijani midfielder Budag Nasyrov and Jovane Cabral, the 18-year old Cape Verdean forward.

Zenit St. Petersburg 4-2 SPORTING / Estoril 0-2 SPORTING B

There was mixed fortunes for both Sporting teams as pre-season continued. The first team lost 4-2 to Zenit St. Petersburg with Bruno César and Gelson Martins scoring for Jorge Jesus’ team but João de Deus’ B team did pick up a win against Estoril.

Jesus rotated his team completely from the win over Stade Nyonnais with the likes of Alan Ruiz and Radosav Petrović starting. Bryan Ruiz also started in a deeper role once again, an experiment that hopefully only lasts until the Euro 2016 Champions return to the team.

Zenit took the lead after just 8 minutes when Jorge Jesus’ former player Javi García scored past Ažbe Jug. Sporting bounced back immediately though, through Bruno César after excellent play from Gelson Martins.

Yuri Zhirkov made it 2-1 in the 16th minute although Jug would have felt he could have done better. Aleksandr Kerzhakov made it 3 immediately afterwards, this time after a mistake from Rúben Semedo.

Hernán Barcos set up Gelson Martins before half-time to pull one back for Sporting.

The game slowed down in the second half with both sides making plenty of substitutes. Zenit though managed one more goal through Luka Djordjević just before the end to make it 4-2.

SPORTING XI: Ažbe Jug; Ezequiel Schelotto, Sebastián Coates, Rúben Semedo, Marvin Zeegelaar (Jefferson, 86′); Radosav Petrović (João Palhinha, 68′), Bryan Ruiz (Ricardo Esgaio, 89′); Bruno César (Scored, 9′) (Matheus Pereira, 63′), Gelson Martins (Scored, 37′) (Iuri Medeiros, 68′); Alan Ruiz (YC) (Daniel Podence, 46′), Hernán Barcos (Islam Slimani, 46′)

At Alcochete Sporting B beat Estoril 2-0 thanks to goals from new signing Edu Pinheiro and youngster Ronaldo Tavares. No word yet of any more details about the match.
