SPORTING B 5-1 Cova da Piedade

Sporting B returned to winning ways in style with a 5-1 thrashing off Cova da Piedade. A brace from Leonardo Ruiz and goals from Pedro Delgado, Matheus Pereira and Bilel Aouacheria gave Sporting the win.

João de Deus had 2 reinforcements from the first team squad with Ricardo Esgaio and Matheus Pereira both starting to regain their match fitness. Cova da Piedade had a familiar face in their team with Evaldo starting in defence.

It was 21 minutes before Sporting took the lead through Leonardo Ruiz, the Colombian heading in Matheus Pereira’s cross. The Brazilian winger had been the danger for Sporting early on in the game.

Most of the goals came in the second half and it was only a minute after the restart that Ruiz completed his brace. This time it was Mama Baldé with the cross for Ruiz to head in yet again.

However, Cova da Piedade got back in the back when Boubakar Kouyaté fouled Christian Irobiso in the area. André Carvalhas stepped up to put the penalty past Pedro Silva.

This time Sporting B didn’t concede a late equaliser as Pedro Delgado popped up to make it 3-1 in the 66th minute, his first goal for Sporting B.

In the 79th minute Matheus Pereira got a much deserved goal after his excellent display and then just before the end substitute Bilel Aouacheria completed the route.

This was easily Sporting B’s best performance of the season and hopefully they can continue their form against Viseu in their next game to get out of the bottom third of the table.

SPORTING B 1-2 Vizela

Sporting B’s difficult start to the Segunda Liga season continued with a home defeat to Vizela.

It was a dull game in Alcochete that took until the second half to really get going. Bilel Aouacheria had the first chance on goal when he hit the post.

However Vizela took the lead from the penalty spot midway through the second half. Mama Baldé fouled Filipe Augusto. Elízio converted past Pedro Silva to put the visitors in the lead.

Just 5 minutes later and the visitors scored again. This time Mário Mendonça set up Kukula to make it 2-0.

Sporting did manage to pull one goal back but it was too late in the game to make a difference. Substitute Pedro Empis was fouled in the area by Diogo Lamelas. Leonardo Ruiz stepped up and converted the penalty, the Colombian’s first goal for Sporting.

Sporting’s youngsters need to improve over the international break to avoid a possible relegation struggle. Their next game is away to Varzim on the 11th September.

Famalicão 1-1 SPORTING B

Sporting B came from behind to draw 1-1 with Famalicão with Ivanildo Fernandes getting the goal.

João de Deus gave a debut to Colombian forward Leonardo Ruiz. Guilherme Ramos returned to the team after his suspension in the place of Fidel Escobar.

It was the home side who started the better and they got their goal through Diego Medeiros after just 14 minutes gone.

Sporting improved after the goal and got an equaliser in the 67th minute when Ricardo Guima’s shot was saved by Victor Braga. The rebound fell to Ivanildo Fernandes who converted from close range.

Sporting almost had the game one near the end through the 16-year old Elves Baldé but it ended 1-1.

It was an improvement over the last game against Fafe but there is still work to do for João de Deus and Sporting B.

Sporting Sign Leonardo Ruiz, Loan Deals, & Transfer Rumours Round-Up

Yesterday Sporting completed the signing of former Porto B forward Leonardo Ruiz to join Sporting B. The Colombian was signed on loan by Porto from Atlético Nacional from 2014 to 2016. Sporting have an option to made the transfer permanent.

Ruiz said he wanted to aim to score 20 goals this season. With the return of Betinho to Belenenses and the departures of Ousmane Dramé (permanently) and Hadi Sacko (on loan) the B team does need extra fire power up front.

Vitória de Setúbal look set to take Ryan Gauld and André Geraldes on loan for the next season. With how João Mário and Rubén Semedo improved their it could be an excellent move for both players.

There are still plenty of transfer rumours from the various Portuguese dailies. Like always, their scattergun approach means sometimes, just sometimes, they’re right. So here’s a quick round up…

Teófilo Gutiérrez looked set to return to Argentina with Rosario Central apparently the club closest to signing the Colombian striker. According Teó’s agent he also has proposals from the United States and Europe so don’t expect this one to be resolved anytime soon.

One rumour reported by the papers, one that has been reported on for a while, is Eduardo to become Rui Patrício’s back-up for this season. The club just has to work out a deal with Dinamo Zagreb.

Should Napoli eventually sell Gonzalo Higuaín then Islam Slimani would become their priority. Although, Italian press have also linked them with lots of other big name strikers.

Staying in Italy, Atalanta are interesting in Alberto Aquilani. After the Italian midfielder’s performance against PSV Eindhoven, any bid will probably be accepted.

Again in Italy, according to O Jogo, Sporting are interested in Palermo’s Achraf Lazaar. The left-back, a position Sporting apparently want to bolster, is available for €5m.

Sporting are looking to make Sebastián Coates’ loan deal permanently as soon as possible. The Uruguayan is still a Sunderland player.

Canadian forward Cyle Larin, currently at Orlando City, has apparently impressed enough for Sporting to consider a bid that would need be around €4m to capture his signature. With Teó set to leave and apparently Hernán Barcos also set to departure Sporting are in need of a new striker. Lukas Spalvis’ injury leaves only Islam Slimani as a true striker.

The press have linked Sporting with 2 Argentinian midfielders. The first is Eibar’s Gonzalo Escalante and then Boca Juniors’ defensive midfielder Marcelo Meli is apparently on Sporting’s radar as well.
