SPORTING B 5-1 Cova da Piedade

Sporting B returned to winning ways in style with a 5-1 thrashing off Cova da Piedade. A brace from Leonardo Ruiz and goals from Pedro Delgado, Matheus Pereira and Bilel Aouacheria gave Sporting the win.

João de Deus had 2 reinforcements from the first team squad with Ricardo Esgaio and Matheus Pereira both starting to regain their match fitness. Cova da Piedade had a familiar face in their team with Evaldo starting in defence.

It was 21 minutes before Sporting took the lead through Leonardo Ruiz, the Colombian heading in Matheus Pereira’s cross. The Brazilian winger had been the danger for Sporting early on in the game.

Most of the goals came in the second half and it was only a minute after the restart that Ruiz completed his brace. This time it was Mama Baldé with the cross for Ruiz to head in yet again.

However, Cova da Piedade got back in the back when Boubakar Kouyaté fouled Christian Irobiso in the area. André Carvalhas stepped up to put the penalty past Pedro Silva.

This time Sporting B didn’t concede a late equaliser as Pedro Delgado popped up to make it 3-1 in the 66th minute, his first goal for Sporting B.

In the 79th minute Matheus Pereira got a much deserved goal after his excellent display and then just before the end substitute Bilel Aouacheria completed the route.

This was easily Sporting B’s best performance of the season and hopefully they can continue their form against Viseu in their next game to get out of the bottom third of the table.

SPORTING B 1-2 Portimonense

Sporting B lost on the first weekend of the Segunda Liga season. New signing Bilel Aouacheria gave Sporting the lead from the penalty spot but 2 goals from Pires gave the win to the visitors.

João de Deus played an almost unrecognisable side to the one he had last season. Mama Baldé captained the what was a very young side with goalkeeper Pedro Silva the only other player to have played a significant amount of B team games before.

Sporting opened the scoring after just 18 minutes when Bilel Aouacheri was fouled in the area. The French forward then duly converted from the penalty spot.

In the second half Portimonense fought back and 2 goals from Jorge Pires gave the visitors the win.

This season could prove to be tricky for Sporting B and João de Deus with such a huge overhaul in the squad and with many players out on loan. However this gives a huge opportunity to the youngsters coming through to prove their worth.

SPORTING B XI: Pedro Silva; Mama Baldé, Fidel Escobar, Guilherme Ramos, David Sualehe (Bubacar Djaló, 74′); Ronaldo Tavares, Fábio Martins (Edu Pinheiro, 84′), Ricardo Guimarães, Pedro Empis; Ricardo Almeida (Bruno Paz, 69′), Bilel Aouacheri

Sporting players and former academy products were in action last night in the Rio 2016 Olympic Games. Portugal beat Argentina 2-0 thanks to goals from Gonçalo Paciência and Pité.

Included in Rui Jorge’s starting XI were Tobias Figueiredo and captain Ricardo Esgaio. André Martins, Edgar Ié and Tiago Ilori also featured with Carlos Mané an unused substitute.

Teófilo Gutiérrez also scored for Colombia in their match against Sweden but it is uncertain how much longer he will be a Sporting player.

Sporting have bolstered their attacking options for the B team with 2 signings. The first is the loan signing of 22-year old Bilel Aouacheria from Sporting Covilhã with an option to buy. The second is another loan signing, of 19-year old Portugal youth international Ricardo Almeida from Moreirense for 2 seasons.

With Eduardo seemingly on his way to Chelsea, Sporting are apparently close to signing Beto as the new back up goalkeeper to Rui Patrício. According to the Portuguese press, Beto just needs to complete his medical before signing a 2-year contract with the option of an extra year, he has been out of contract after his spell at Sevilla. Beto will be returning to Sporting after having been at the club from 1995-2004.
