Sporting Sign Luc Castaignos, Bas Dost and Pedro Delgado and Other News

It was a very busy weekend off the pitch as as as Sporting completed 3 transfer deals.

First, Bas Dost signed from Wolfsburg on a 4-year contract with a €60,000,000 release clause. The Dutch striker will certainly become the replace to Islam Sllimani, with the Algerian set to depart.  The transfer fee is believed to be in the region of €10m. Bas Dost scored 47 goals in 115 appearances for Wolfsburg and has so far made 6 appearances for the Netherlands national team.

Pedro Delgado signed from Internazionale with Sporting holding 50% of the rights of the player. The 19-year old signs a 2-year contract with an option for 3 more and a release clause of €45,000,000. Delgado, who briefly played for Sporting’s youth system as well as with Portimonense will begin at the B team.

Delgado could make his debut for the B team later today in the game against Vizela.

In what will presumably be Sporting’s last transfer of the season Luc Castaignos joined from Eintracht Frankfurt. The Dutch forward signs a 3 year contract with the option of 2 more and a release clause of €60,000,000. No word yet of a transfer fee, but along with André and Joel Campbell, Castaignos is another reinforcement to what will be a brand new attacking line-up for Jorge Jesus. Castaignos scored 5 goals in 17 games in Germany last season.

Islam Slimani looked set to complete his move to Leicester City. The club’s chairman, Vichai Srivaddhanaprabha, was apparently at the Alvalade during the game against Porto to complete the move.

Finally, Carlos Mané has apparently agreed to a 2-year loan to Stuttgart. Mané came off from the bench against Porto but has found game time difficult to come by at Sporting the arrival of Jorge Jesus and the emergence of Gelson Martins.

News: João Mário, Pedro Delgado, Luc Castaignos, Naldo

João Mário is in Milan to complete his signing with Internazionale. The two clubs seem to have finally come to an agreement and, presumably, Inter have managed to make the transfer work whilst still agreeing with Financial Fair Play. The transfer should be made official soon.

The signing of Pedro Delgado from Inter is also nearly complete. The player is apparently in Lisbon completing his medical. The player has apparently had other proposals from clubs in England and Italy but is set to return to Sporting, where he previously featured at youth level.

Sporting are apparently close to completing the signing of Luc Castaignos from Eintracht Frankfurt. The Dutch striker, who turns 24 in September, will be signing for a fee believed to be between €2.5m and €3m according to Mais Futebol. The signing of Castaignos would certainly make Islam Slimani’s departure a more likely outcome. Indeed, France Football were reporting that Leicester City want to up their bid for the Algerian striker.

Naldo has left Sporting to join Krasnodar on a permanent transfer. It was initially believed to be a loan deal but the Russian club have signed the player for 4 seasons. Once again, no word yet of a transfer fee.

One transfer fee we do know is that Douglas Teixeira joined Sporting for €1m, aaccording to Trabzonspor themselves. If Douglas is the replacement to Naldo, it looks like Sporting may have made a profit with that one.

Champions League Draw, Douglas, André

There’s plenty of big news to catch up on with the Champions League draw, the signings of Douglas and André, the departure of Alberto Aquilani, and the usual transfer rumours.

Firstly, we’ll look at the Champions League draw. It’s a very tough group for Sporting but does involve the return of a familiar face to the Alvalade. Here are the full Champions League fixtures:

14th September: Real Madrid vs. SPORTING
27th September: SPORTING vs. Legia Warszawa
18th October: SPORTING vs. Borussia Dortmund
2nd November: Borussia Dortmund vs. SPORTING
22nd November: SPORTING vs. Real Madrid
7th December: Legia Warszawa vs. SPORTING

It’s looking like 3rd place is going to be the most likely outcome of that group but the return of Cristiano Ronaldo should be a great moment.

Madrid, Dortmund and Legia will also be the opponents for Sporting’s U19 side as Sporting return to the UEFA Youth League.

Yesterday Sporting also completed the long expected transfer of Douglas Teixeira from Trabzonspor. The Brazilian turned Dutch central defender has a 3-year contract with the option of an extra year.

No word of a transfer fee but the 28-year old is going to find it difficult to get in the team ahead of Rúben Semedo and Sebastián Coates. This is should accelerate the departures of Naldo, rumoured to be joining Krasnodar on loan shortly, and Ewerton.

The departure of Alberto Aquilani has finally concluded. The Italian midfielder rescinded his contract and has joined Pescara.

Before that, on Wednesday evening there was the signing of Brazilian forward André from Corinthians. Apparently, Sporting have used some of the debt owed the club by Corinthians (back from the transfer of Elias) as part of the transfer fee but no official word on the value.

André signs a contract until 2019 with an option of 2 more seasons and a release clause of €60,000,000.

According to O Jogo, Sporting want to give a new contract to Gelson Martins. Martins currently has a contract until 2021, however Sporting want to increase the player’s wages as well extend the length of the contract.

A Bola say that there are Primeira Liga clubs looking to sign Daniel Podence on loan, with Sporting willing to allow the player to gain experience elsewhere.

Finally, the rumours of the signing of Bas Dost have returned. If you believe all the rumours then Sporting have competition from some English sides however should Sporting sign the Wolfsburg man it is likely it could lead to the exit of Islam Slimani.

Transfer Rumours – Joel Campbell, Pedro Delgado, João Mário

The latest transfer rumours begin with the seemingly imminent signing of Joel Campbell on loan for Arsenal. Sport TV had initially reported that Campbell was watching the Paços de Ferreira game but then changed their minds.

It is believed, however, that he will be announced shortly as a Sporting player with Sporting also having an option to purchase the player at the end of his loan.

Most people believed Pedro Delgado, Internazionale’s 19-year old Portuguese midfielder, was on his way to Benfica. However, rumours are that he is now on his way to Sporting after having at the last minute upped his wages and fees from Benfica. Of course, if Inter want to do a deal with Sporting it would be beneficial for them now to want to sell a promising Portuguese prospect who once spent a few years at Sporting’s academy to the club’s rivals.

There is the alternative that Delgado’s representatives are using Sporting to help Benfica increase their offer for the player.

Most likely, the player if Sporting do sign Delgado, the player will be a part of João Mário’s transfer. Which, after the midfielder was excluded from Jorge Jesus’ squad for the Paços de Ferreira game, seems ever more imminent .

Of course, this one has been rumbling along all summer, so it was no surprise that Jorge Jesus said after the win against Paços that if João Mário is still at the club on Sunday he will play against Porto.

Sporting Sign Leonardo Ruiz, Loan Deals, & Transfer Rumours Round-Up

Yesterday Sporting completed the signing of former Porto B forward Leonardo Ruiz to join Sporting B. The Colombian was signed on loan by Porto from Atlético Nacional from 2014 to 2016. Sporting have an option to made the transfer permanent.

Ruiz said he wanted to aim to score 20 goals this season. With the return of Betinho to Belenenses and the departures of Ousmane Dramé (permanently) and Hadi Sacko (on loan) the B team does need extra fire power up front.

Vitória de Setúbal look set to take Ryan Gauld and André Geraldes on loan for the next season. With how João Mário and Rubén Semedo improved their it could be an excellent move for both players.

There are still plenty of transfer rumours from the various Portuguese dailies. Like always, their scattergun approach means sometimes, just sometimes, they’re right. So here’s a quick round up…

Teófilo Gutiérrez looked set to return to Argentina with Rosario Central apparently the club closest to signing the Colombian striker. According Teó’s agent he also has proposals from the United States and Europe so don’t expect this one to be resolved anytime soon.

One rumour reported by the papers, one that has been reported on for a while, is Eduardo to become Rui Patrício’s back-up for this season. The club just has to work out a deal with Dinamo Zagreb.

Should Napoli eventually sell Gonzalo Higuaín then Islam Slimani would become their priority. Although, Italian press have also linked them with lots of other big name strikers.

Staying in Italy, Atalanta are interesting in Alberto Aquilani. After the Italian midfielder’s performance against PSV Eindhoven, any bid will probably be accepted.

Again in Italy, according to O Jogo, Sporting are interested in Palermo’s Achraf Lazaar. The left-back, a position Sporting apparently want to bolster, is available for €5m.

Sporting are looking to make Sebastián Coates’ loan deal permanently as soon as possible. The Uruguayan is still a Sunderland player.

Canadian forward Cyle Larin, currently at Orlando City, has apparently impressed enough for Sporting to consider a bid that would need be around €4m to capture his signature. With Teó set to leave and apparently Hernán Barcos also set to departure Sporting are in need of a new striker. Lukas Spalvis’ injury leaves only Islam Slimani as a true striker.

The press have linked Sporting with 2 Argentinian midfielders. The first is Eibar’s Gonzalo Escalante and then Boca Juniors’ defensive midfielder Marcelo Meli is apparently on Sporting’s radar as well.

More Players to Leave on Loan

There could be loan deals for Rubén Semedo, Wallyson Mallmann, João Palhinha, Mica Pinto, Luís Ribeiro and Kikas should all the reports be believed.

One move that is official so far is João Palhinha’s loan move to Moreirense where he looks to be joining teammate Iuri Medeiros. The move should prove a good challenge for Palhinha to play in the Primeira Liga after spending time with the B team.

Wallyson Mallmann is set move to France this season, joining with OGC Nice and should be another good step up from B team football.

Rubén Semedo looks set to move somewhere much closer, this time to Vitória de Setúbal, after spending last season on loan in Reus in Spain.

Finally, Mica Pinto, Luís Ribeiro and Kikas could be set to join former B team manager José Dominguez in Spain. Dominguez took over at Recreativo de Huelva back in March with the club relegated to the Segunda División B where they will play in Group 4 with outer Southern Spanish teams.

Transfer News Round-Up: 20/7

There’s been plenty of transfer news recently with 3 departures from the club (1 permanent) as well as, as always, scores of transfer rumours.

Fabián Rinaudo has completed his move to Catania for €3,000,000. The Argentine midfielder found it hard to find a place in the team after the emergence of William Carvalho and will now return to the club where he spent last season on loan. Rinaudo has stated he wants to help Catania return to Serie A after their demotion to Serie B last season.

Rinaudo has been a great leader for Sporting on and off the field since he joined from Gimnasia La Plata in 2011 and was frequently one of the senior leaders in the team. Best of luck to Fito as he moves on.

Wilson Eduardo has moved to Dinamo Zagreb for the rest of the season with the Croatian club given the option to buy. The winger has impressed so far in pre-season after finding it hard to find game-time with the break through of Carlos Mané and the signing of Héldon Ramos last season.

Eduardo will miss the opportunity to play with his brother João Mário who is just becoming a first team player but will join a large Portuguese contingent at Dinamo. There’s no word yet on a price Zagreb would be looking to pay should they wish to make the deal permanent.

Diogo Salomão will be returning to Deportivo de La Coruña for yet another stint with the club. The winger’s last stint was cut short after Salomão received a serious injury. Salomão will be having a medical with the club on Monday.

The expected exit of Miguel Lopes is still no closer to being done. The right-back apparently has proposals from clubs in Germany, England and Spain with Real Betis though to being close but no concrete news yet on the player.

In transfer speculation Trabzonspor join the list of clubs interested in signing Islam Slimani. The list now is endless.

Sporting are said to have turned down a €30,000,000 offer from Arsenal for William Carvalho. The club are said to be open to listening to offers but were not impressed with Arsenal’s apparent intention to pay for the player in two separate instalments.

Boca Juniors are hoping to secure the loan of Valentín Viola who apparently doesn’t enter Marco Silva’s plans for next season. The Argentinian club apparently not bothered by Viola’s Racing Club tattoo.

Finally, Héldon Ramos is said to have interested clubs in Greece and Turkey for his services but A Bola doesn’t provide much more information than that.

News Round-Up: 16/07/04

Sporting were 4-0 winners in a behind closed doors inter-squad friendly against Sporting B last night. Goals from Wilson Eduardo, Salim Cissé, Héldon Ramos and André Martins gave Marco Silva’s side an expected win over Francisco Barão’s B squad. You’d be worried if it was any other way.

In other news Simeon Slavchev has returned to training after a minor injury meant he missed the game against the Açores XI.

Sporting looked to have captured to youth players to develop with the club next season according to Record. Versatile midfield Diogo Barbosa and and forward Luís Eloi are both 18-years old. Barbosa has already been well travelled despite his age with stints in the youth systems of Benfica, Porto, and Watford.

Sporting have been told by transfer target Alexander Milošević’s agent that the club should hurry up if they wish to capture AIK’s 22-year old Swedish centre-back. The agent claims that there is currently strong interest from a Serie A club. O Jogo speculates that that club is Hellas Verona.

Sticking with O Jogo, they believe recently managerless Juventus are readying a €16m bid for Marcos Rojo. The Argentine’s value has certainly increased after an impressive World Cup but he has been rumoured to join every other club you can think of.

News Round-Up 3/6: Oriol Rosell Signs for Sporting

Oriol Rosell’s transfer to Sporting from Sporting Kansas City is completed and the Spanish midfielder has signed a 5-year contract with a €45,000,000 release clause.

The 21-year old will bolster Sporting’s midfield no doubt with European football in mind. No news of the transfer fee involved but O Jogo guesses that it is likely to be €1,000,000. Rosell becomes Sporting’s third signing this summer after the arrivals of Simeon Slavchev and Paulo Oliveira.

Elsewhere Record say that Sporting are still negotiating with Audax São Paulo for Rafael Martin’s after the forward’s excellent season at Vitória de Setúbal although they may meet competition from Benfica.

A Bola say that Sporting hope to close the deal for Ramy Rabia from Al-Ahly by the end of the week. The two clubs had disputed about the values for the 21-year old defender made his debut with the club at 17 and has already played several times for the Egyptian national team.

Stoke City are apparently after Diego Capel with Sporting wanting €8m for the player but Stoke would prefer a value around €4-5m.

Torino look set to beat Sporting to the signing of Josef Martínez from Young Boys. The 21-year old forward from Venezuela has impressed at FC Thun.

Club Tijuana’s 24-year old attacking midfielder Fidel Martínez is another name mentioned in the papers as interesting Sporting. Sporting may consider the Ecuadorian as an eventual replacement for Diego Capel.

Sporting are also considering the possibility of signing Nacional’s Fernando Marçal to deputise for Jefferson.

News Round-Up 30/05

A round-up of some of the news from Portugal’s daily papers…

This year’s Taça da Honra will be held at the Estádio do Restelo with Sporting, Benfica, Belenenses and Estoril once again competing. Current holders Sporting will kick-off on the 18th July against Belenenses before potentially facing Benfica or Estoril in the final on the 20th July. This year also marks the 100th anniversary of the Taça da Honra.

O Jogo is reporting that André Martins is set to be offered a contract extension that will extended his deal at the club until 2018. The negotiations have been going on but the paper reports that it is likely to be finalised with Martin on a €35,000-a-week contract with a €45,000,000 release clause.

In transfer rumours Arsenal at the latest club to be linked with Eric Dier. Dier’s father was said to be unhappy with the defender’s lack of football last season but with Marcos Rojo looking likely to leave Dier could soon find himself in playing more next season although he will have to compete with new signing Paulo Oliveira for that spot. Arsenal are apparently willing to offer €6,000,000 for the player.

Marcos Rojo rumours are continuing in full force with Paris Saint-Germain and Barcelona the latest clubs rumoured to be in for the defender. Sporting are said to be hoping for between €10-15m before they decide to sell.

There are apparently more options for Fabián Rinaudo should he wish to leave the club. As well as Catania being extremely interested the midfielder has been linked with a whole host of clubs in his native Argentina with Boca Juniors, Racing Club, Rosario Central and his former club Gimnasia La Plata all said to be interested.

Sporting have been linked with the signing of Iranian 18-year old left-winger Ali Hazami. Hazami is currently with Foolad FC in Iran and the player’s agent says that the player is just waiting for an offer from Sporting with Pohang Steelers of Korea also interested.

The transfer of Marko Petković from Red Star Belgrade is getting closer with Record saying the player has agreed to join the club and they are confident that the Serbian right-back will be Sporting’s 3rd signing of the transfer window.

Finally Sporting are also continuing their interest in Marítimo’s Derley. Record said that the player’s agent arrived in Portugal last Monday ahead of negotiations for the player.
