Sporting played a dull 0-0 draw with OGC Nice, with the highlight of the match being another Rui Patrício penalty save, in the final pre-season game.
Jorge Jesus made a few changes to the team that lost to Real Betis yesterday. William Carvalho, Adrien Silva, and João Mário all starting. Rúben Semedo also returned to the team after his injury a week ago.
The game was even throughout with Sporting it finding it difficult to break down Nice’s defence and Nice looking to counter whenever possible. The best of Sporting’s attempts came through a few long range strikes from Alan Ruiz.
The big talking point of the game came just before half-time when the referee awarded a soft penalty for to Nice. Alassane Pléa stepped up to take it but Rui Patrício once again was equal to the task and palmed the penalty away.
The second-half lacked the excitement of the first but even with Islam Slimani coming on from the bench Sporting found it difficult to find a way through the French side’s defence.
Jorge Jesus will at least be happy with a defence that didn’t leak goals today ahead of Sporting’s first game of the season against Marítimo.
