It proved to be a tricky evening in the Restelo and Adrien Silva’s yellow card on the 38th minute means he will miss the next game against Nacional.
André Martins had the best chance of the first half for Sporting but they were unable to break the deadlock.
It took just 7 minutes of the second half for Sporting to take the lead though. Carlos Mané was brought down by João Meira and referee Cosme Machado pointed to the spot. Adrien Silva cooly stepped up to put Sporting ahead.
The home side improved after going a goal down and started to trouble Sporting. Marcos Rojo was given a straight red card, perhaps unfortunately so, in the 79th minute but Sporting managed to hang on to win and secure Champions League football.
