Result: Trofense 1-1 SPORTING B

Trofense and Sporting B ended in a draw with the away side being reduced to 10 men in the second half.

Abel was without Ricardo Esgaio, Wallyson Mallmann, Mauro Riquicho and Betinho in the squad so the Sporting B manager needed to make quite a few chances. Hugo Sousa filled in at right-back, Seejou King played further on the left-wing whilst Cristian Ponde started up front.

It was the visitors who had a good early chance when João Jesus found space in the box but he blasted his shot well of Mickaël Meira’s goal.

Sporting B were forced into an early change when Luka Stojanović picked up an injury after 15 minutes. Lewis Enoh come on in place of the Serbian – shifting Cristian Ponde in to a deeper position.

Lewis Enoh’s debut didn’t go exactly according to plan as within 10 minutes the Cameroonian had given away a penalty. Enoh was charging down a cross which hit him in the arm from close range, perhaps a slightly harsh decision. The experienced Tiago Pereira stepped up to take the penalty but hit it wide of the goal.

Trofense did get their goal after some sleepy defending by Sporting B. André Viana was teed up and he slotted neatly to make it 1-0 to Trofense.

Sporting B found it hard to create with all of their attacking threat going through Iuri Medeiros. This meant made two half time decisions bringing on 18-year old Daniel Podence and 17-year old Matheus Pereira. It was the first appearance of the season for Daniel Podence for the B team but a first professional appearance for the Brazilian Matheus Pereira.

The gamble by Abel worked after just 7 minutes when Matheus Pereira won a penalty after being fouled by Neves. Rúben Semedo stepped up and calmly sent the goalkeeper the wrong way to equalise.

Sporting were vastly improved in the second half but Fabrice Fokobo’s foolish sending off for a second yellow card offence meant a more frantic ending to the game.

Both sides have chances but Mickaël Meira’s excellent save to prevent André Rateira denied Trofense the best chance in the closing stages.

The result leaves Sporting B 4th in the table but Sporting da Covilhã and Benfica B have the opportunity to overtake Sporting in their next games.
