Islam Slimani had been nominated for the Confederation of African Football’s (CAF) African Player of the Year Award.
The Algerian forward joins a 25 strong list along side some of football’s greatest players. The award was won last year by Manchester City’s Yaya Touré. Slimani is one of the two Algerians on the list and the only player to be currently plying his trade in the Primeira Liga.
The award is great recognition for Slimani’s achievements with the national team as well as with his previous club CR Belouizdad. The Algerian forward has only recently been scoring the goals to mean he may well have a chance of starting Sporting’s next game away to Vitória de Guimarães on the 24th November.
