Sporting B moved up to 4th in the Segunda Liga with a comfortable 4-0 victory over 10-man Chaves. Iuri Medeiros opened the scoring before Ricardo Esgaio completed a superb hat-trick.
Abel Ferreira’s side started off superbly at the Alvalade and were already 2-0 with ten minutes played in the game.
Iuri Medeiros’ first was a ferocious strike that left goalkeeper Paul Ribeiro with no chance after just 7 minutes played.
Medeiros then turned from goalscorer into goal provider 3 minutes later as his cross from the left hand side found Ricardo Esgaio. The in-form winger was able to control before managing to finish whilst under pressure from Chaves defenders.
The away side improved after that start and managed to start creating chances of their own but were unable to make a breakthrough before half-time.
Chaves’ attempt to fight back was suffered a bitter blow 5 minutes after the second half with goalkeeper Paulo Ribeiro sent off. It was a bizarre sending off as Paulo Ribeiro threw a ball outside of his area meaning referee Daniel Cardoso had to send the experienced goalkeeper off with Nuno Dias the man to replace him.
With being down to 10 men the game became a more scruffy midfield battle and it seemed like it was going to end 2-0 before a late flurry from Sporting right at the end.
After 78 minutes Abel Ferreira took off Luka Stojanović and brought on the Brazilian-German midfielder Wallyson Mallmann for his first professional appearance. The former Manchester City and Basel youth player picked up a yellow card not long afterwards.
In the 88th minute Sporting countered for Ricardo Esgaio to get his second off the game before completing a hat trick in the second minute of stoppage time.
This result tops a fantastic run of form for Abel’s youngsters – in the last 6 games the team have been undefeated and won 5 of those scoring 14 goals in the process. After Salim Cissé’s injury it looked like the B team may struggle for goals but Betinho’s return and Ricardo Esgaio’s excellent form means they a strong attacking threat.
