Result: União da Madeira 2-3 SPORTING B

Abel Ferreira’s B team mimicked the first team by coming from behind 2-1 to win 2-3 against opposition from Madeira. A brace from Ricardo Esgaio and a winner from Cristian Ponde was enough for Sporting B.

União da Madeira took the lead after just 9 minutes when Algerian defender Kheireddine Zarabi scored from a União corner kick.

The game had few opportunities early on for Sporting B with Gérson Magrão’s shot going the closest in the opening stages. It was though the home side who went into half-time in the lead.

The second half started much brighter though and within a minute Sporting B had equalised through Ricardo Esgaio.

Sporting B continued searching for the winning goal but were hit with a sucker punch when União countered. Luís Ribeiro had done well to deflected 2 shots before Miguel Fidalgo was able to pounce and put the home side ahead again.

Referee Vasco Santos awarded Sporting a penalty 8 minutes later after a handball by midfielder Rúben Andrade. Ricardo Esgaio duly stepped up to put Sporting level once again.

It took until the 86th minute for Sporting B to get a winner. Cristian Ponde, who was a substitute for Betinho just seconds earlier, was the man to get it.

This win now makes it 4 wins in 5 games for the B team which currently pushes them up to 5th place in the Segunda Liga although Marítimo B are just one point behind with a game in hand.
