Sporting B So Far

There’s been plenty of news for Oceano Cruz and José Dominguez’s Sporting B ahead of the return of B-Sides to Portuguese football. Here is the story so far.

Transfers in:

Sporting have looked to reinforce the B team to add experience to some of the youngsters at the club. The first signing was Gonçalo Silva, 19-year-old midfielder who has spent time with youth teams at Benfica, Belenenses, Oeiras, and most recently, Portimonense.

Next came 20-year-old Lucas Patinho who signed on loan from Fluminense. Patinho plays as an attacking midfielder and has in the past been compared to Deco.

Sporting B added experience with the signing of India captain Sunil Chhetri from Indian side Mohun Bagan until 2014. At 27 Chhetri will be expected to give guidance to some of the younger players.

Sporting have also added Burkina Faso international Nii Plange from Feyenoord Academy. The Ghanian club is linked with the Netherlands club Feyenoord.

Forward Jorge Chula has also joined from União de Leiria. Chula had preivously been a youth-team player at FC Porto.

Lastly is Ruan Yang, a 19-year-old Chinese midfielder who joined from Hangzhou Greentown.

Pre-Season Games:

Sporting B have played twice so far. The first game was on Saturday 14th July against 1º de Maio Sarilhense. Sporting B won 5-0 with a brace from Kikas, as well as goals from Sunil Chhetri, Gaël Etock and Nii Plange.

Most recently was a friendly against Académica in which Sporting B provided a surprise 4-1 victory.

The Sporting B side that started the game was: Luís Ribeiro; Santiago Arias, Eric Dier, Fabrice, Atila Turan; Luís Almeida, José Lopes, Renato Neto; Filipe Chaby, Iuri Medeiros, Plange

Later on in the game saw the addition of Ricardo Esgaio, João Mário, Lucas Patinho, Sunil Chhetri, Ruan Yang, Tobias Figueiredo and Bruma. The goals came from Nii Planga (x2), Turan and Bruma.

Sporting B’s next fixture is against Naval 1.º de Maio on Sunday.
