Following Sporting’s 3-2 defeat to Manchester City last night and away goal qualification against the English side, today the draw for the next round of the Europa League took place.
Ukrainian side FC Metalist Kharkiv will be Sporting’s opponents in the Quarter-Finals set to take place on the 29th March and 5th April.
Metalist, a side with a huge South American contingent, is the current club of former Sporting defender Marco Torsiglieri. The Argentine joined Metalist on loan last season before securing a permanent deal at the start of the new year and will be set to face his former team.
Kharkiv go to this stage by defeating Olympiacos on away goals in the last round having already thoroughly beaten Red Bull Salzburg in Round of 32.
Should Sporting advance they will then face the winner of Schalke 04 and Athletic Club.
