Sporting have completed their first signing of the January transfer-window with the agreement to bring in Brazilian centre-back Xandão on an 18-month loan spell.
The 23-year old, who was last seen on loan at São Paulo before becoming an official São Paulo player, will arrive in Lisbon soon to complete his move and join up with his new squad. He is though unlikely to be available for the forthcoming Taça da Liga game against Rio Ave but could be eligible to play in time for the big liga game against Porto.
Xandão will have to compete with Ânderson Polga, Alberto Rodríguez, Oguchi Onyewu, Daniel Carriço and Tiago Ilori for a place in the first-team.
With Renato Neto being recalled from his loan at Cercle Brugge it shows the intention of Sporting to have the strongest squad possible for the huge amount of fixtures coming up in the next few months.
