Sporting Clube de Portugal host Vitória de Setúbal tomorrow at the Alvalade and will hope to make it 4 wins on the bounce.
Setúbal will not be the easy of opponents if you count the meeting between the two last season, a Jaílson scoring the only goal of the game, add on top of that a Setúbal home win over Sporting in the Taça de Portugal in December. Although Sporting did win away in in the league Setúbal 3-0 a few weeks later thanks to a brace from Yannick Djaló and a goal from Abel.
The last win Sporting enjoyed at home to Setúbal came the season before, Sporting coming from behind to win 2-1 with João Moutinho and Hélder Postiga grabbing the goals on that day.
Vitória de Setúbal sit just below Sporting in the table currently having amassed 7 points from 5 games (2 wins, 1 draw, 2 defeats) so far this season. Os Sadinos coming most recently off of a 1-0 win at home to Beira-Mar.
There will be two familiar faces that could face off against Sporting, Alexander Zahavi, the American-Israeli-Portuguese player who spent a few years as a youngster with the club before moving onto Maccabi Haifa and goalkeeper Ricardo, although it seems likely that Diego will play in his position for Setúbal again.
No real surprises amongst Domingos Paciência’s squad for the game. Marat Izmailov, as previously reported, will miss due to injury as will Jeffrén Suárez, though the Spaniard may return for the game against Lazio next. Luis Aguiar is fit but does not travel with the squad, neither does Bruno Pereirinha. Once again Daniel Carriço is excluded from the squad, along with Santiago Arias, Tiago and André Martins.
Domingos Paciência may have his mind on the game ahead against Lazio when choosing his team and could look to rest a few players. Although momentum for the team could be his strategy and a similar team could ensure a great stability amongst the players and the shape of the team.
With Porto taking on Benfica tonight a win is all the more important for Sporting to catch up after August’s poor form and to continue a positive few weeks.
Possible SPORTING XI:
João Pereira – Alberto Rodríguez – Ânderson Polga – Emiliano Insúa
Fabián Rinaudo – Stijn Schaars
André Carrillo – Elias – Diego Capel
