Sporting Clube de Portugal got a relatively easy draw in the Taça de Portugal with an away fixture to Segunda Divisão Norte (Second Divsion North) side Famalicão.
The lower league side from Vila Nova de Famalicão in the Braga region were promoted last year from the Terceira Divisão Série B (Third Division Group B) last season as runners-up. José Augusto is the current coach and his team were knocked out in the Taça by Serzedelo in their first game last year.
The match will be played on the 15th October at the Estádio Municipal 22 de Junho. You can check all the upcoming fixtures here.
It will be interesting to see what sort of team Sporting field for this game, the likes of André Martins and Marcelo Boeck could be given their first appearances of the season – or perhaps some of the prospects from the youth sides.
The last time the clubs met was the last time Famalicão were in the top flight, back in the 1993/1994 season. The last game was at the old Alvalade and Sporting ran out 3-0 winners with Paulo Torres scoring two and the great Luís Figo the other.
The last time though the two sides met away from Lisbon ended in a 1-1 draw. Andrzej Juskowiak scored one for Sporting before João Mário equalised for the home side.
