NextGen Report: SPORTING 2-1 Wolfsburg

Sporting Clube de Portugal’s U19 side made it 2 wins out of 2 with a victory at home to VfL Wolfsburg on a very wet night at the Alvalade. Ricardo Sá Pinto’s youngsters came into the game off a very impressive 3-0 win away to Liverpool at Anfield.

Sporting’s first goal came through the same man who was one of the stand out players in the first match, Betinho. Betinho scored just before half-time in the 45th minute after a dominate performance from the young Leões.

Wolfsburg came into the game more in the second half and equalised in the 56th minute through Maximilian Arnold but the German side’s did not stay equal for long. On the 60th minute Sporting took the lead once more, this time through Carlos Chaby which proved to be the winning goal after some good work with Iuri Medeiros.

The conditions in Lisbon didn’t help the game at all, with the torrential rain making the pitch a hazard to play on and affecting the ball’s movement.

The result though leaves Sporting now at the top of Group 2 and continuing to impress. Stephan Schmidt’s Wolfsburg on the other hand half lost both of their first games now and will have work to do later on.

Sporting’s next game in the NextGen Series on the 21th September at home to Molde.

Sporting U19 XI: Rafael Veloso; Ricardo Esgaio, Edgar Ié, Tiago Ilori, Michael Pinto; João Mário, Bruma, João Carlos, Chaby (Edilino Ié 75′), Iuri Medeiros (Rúben Semedo 85′); Betinho (Mané 75′)
Subs Not Used: Mickael Meira, Rodolfo Simões, Farley Rosa, Alexandre Guedes.
