Sporting will want to kick off their league season now after finally getting their first competitive win at home to Nordsjælland on Thursday.
There will be more selection problems for Domingos Paciência, especially up front. Hélder Postiga once again failed to find the mark against Nordsjælland where as Valeri Bojinov looked impressive after coming off the bench to make his debut. Ricky van Wolfswinkel will of course also be pushing for the striker position.
Jeffrén Suárez could be fit to return after a thigh strain kept him out of the last two games, although Matías Fernández and Alberto Rodríguez are doubts with Luis Aguiar and Bruno Pereirinha both looking set to definitely miss out.
Emiliano Insúa could make his debut although having only just joined the club it could be more likely that Evaldo will keep his spot for the short term.
André Santos looked very good last time out and scored a goal. That could mean Domingos will leave the also impressive Fabián Rinaudo on the bench once more.
Marítimo lost their last game 2-0 away to Braga after a 0-0 draw with Beira-Mar in the first leg. The Marítimo manager, Pedro Martins, had a 3 year spell as a Sporting player. On top of that Marítimo forward, Sérgio Marakis, spent some of his youth career at the Sporing Academy.
In the corresponding game last season on the 22nd August Sporting ran out 1-0 winners. An 89th minute Matías Fernández penalty was enough after Liédson was brought down in the box.
With Porto having already won their first two games Sporting must keep winning to put pressure on the Champions.
Possible SPORTING XI:
João Pereira – Daniel Carriço – Ânderson Polga – Evaldo Fabiano
Fabián Rinaudo – Stijn Schaars
Yannick Djaló – Marat Izmailov – Diego Capel
