Three Sporting youngsters have been called up for the Portuguese side to feature in the English FA’s International U17 tournament. Hélio Sousa has called up goalkeeper Miguel Lázaro (pictured), forward Cristian Ponde who was signed from Olhanense at the age of 10, and central defender Ricardo Tavares.
The tournament, which takes place in East Anglia, will be a round-robin between Portugal, England, Italy and the Czech Republic. The games will take place from the 24th to the 28th of August.
What may perhaps be a worry for the Sporting youth coaches is the amount of players called for the U17 players. Sporting’s 3 pales in comparisons to Porto’s 8 and Benfica’s 10.
