Sporting look set to secure a major coup with the signing of Sevilla and Spain winger Diego Capel for an apparent figure of €6,000,000.
According to Mais Futebol the deal is already agreed, with the left-winger set to sign a 5 year-contract with Sporting.
Mais quote the player’s Uncle, Carioca Capel, who has said that the player is set to travel to Lisbon tomorrow and that he will then sign on Wednesday to officially become a Sporting player – ahead of Sporting’s trip to the USA.
Following the 3-0 win friendly win over Ankaragücü Domingos Paciência talked to Sport.TV about Diego Capel:
“If it [the Capel transfer] materializes, it would be good. Capel is a player of great quality, and is an under-21 international for Spain. I got to know [him] when he faced my former team [Braga]… Let’s hope.”
Should the transfer go through, it seems slightly strange that Sporting will be signing such a highly rated player like Diego Capel for a relatively low figure. It could be likely that the deal is more than that and that Sevilla may get a player in return as well (which would likely mean Alberto Zapater returning to Spain).
Diego Capel may become Sporting’s 13th new player to be signed (should we assume that Atila Turan’s move eventually becomes finalised) in what has been a hugely important transfer window for Sporting.
