Sporting CP have completed the transfer of Dutch international Stijn Schaars from AZ for a fee believed to be in the region of €700,000. Some sources have the figure higher at around €850,000, but the price tag is still relatively cheap due to Schaars contract with AZ due to end at the end of next season.
Stijn Schaars, whose career began at Vitesse, is a midfielder who as well as being captain for Alkmaar based club AZ also has played 12 times for the senior national team as well as winning the European U-21 Championships with the Netherlands.
Schaars will join up with fellow new Dutch signing Ricky van Wolfswinkel to ensure an entirely new look to Sporting in the upcoming season.
Interestingly the signing of Schaars will likely mean the likes of Maniche and Pedro Mendes will be leaving the club shortly.
