After taking a knock in training yesterday, it was discovered that Abel’s injury is much more serious and he will require surgery to the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee, and thus ending his season. Abel’s surgery is due to take place next week and one of the Sporting doctors, Gomes Pereira, refused to put a time on when he will return and the hope will be that he can be ready in time for next season. There will probably be a better estimation of when he will return after the surgery.
This leaves a bit of a mystery over who will fill the right back roll against Vitória de Setúbal with João Pereira suspended. With Caneira in footballing limbo and Cédric Soares being only 19 years old, it may require one of the centre-backs to fill an unfamiliar right back role.
