Although this blog touched a little bit earlier on Timo Hildebrand looking likely to leave, it now seems almost certain, and it will come as a surprise to no one.
Hildebrand has made only 3 appearances for the club so far this season, none of which were in league games. The number one goalkeeping spot has been taken by Rui Patrício, and it’s no surprise due to the Portuguese international’s superb form.
Mais Futebol picked up some interesting quotes from a magazine interview with Timo, for the German publication Kicker. The quotes seem to show Timo’s desire to return to Germany as he hopes to regain some of the early form he found there with Stuttgart.
“Looking back, I think it was a mistake to leave Stuttgart. I never really had the opportunity in Valencia and now Sporting. I had enough time over the past few months to think about what I truly enjoy this sport. I’ll be ready in the summer to see where my path takes me.”
Hildebrand also cites the example of Bayern goalkeeper Hans-Jörg Butt, who had a season to forget in Lisbon whilst playing for Benfica before return to eventually become a Bundesliga champion for the Bavaria club.
I think everyone will agree a move back to Germany for Timo would be in the interests of all the parties involved.
