It’s a pretty obvious rumour, so it’s no surprise that it’s one doing the rounds. At the moment Manchester United are going to be linked with every top class goalkeeper as Edwin Van Der Sar retires at the end of the season.
According to A Bola Manchester United has scouts at the Dragão on Sunday night (as well as having scouts at the Vicente Calderón Stadium to watch David De Gea). Anybody watching that match will be very impressed with Rui Patrício’s performance despite the fact he let in 3 goals.
United seem odds on at the moment to sign David De Gea but with 2nd choice United goalkeeper Tomasz Kuszczak looking likely to depart Old Trafford in the summer, it would be no surprise if the club signed two goalkeepers this summer, even in spite of the recent signing of Anders Lindegaard.
Should Rui Patricio depart for Manchester, it could leave Sporting with the need to sign 3 new goalkeepers this summer as A Bola also reports both Tiago and Timo Hildebrand are possibly on their way out.
Although, I’d add it’s unlikely that Tiago Ferreira will leave, he has been at the club since 1995 and is now 35, what else could he go on to? Timo Hildebrand though seems much more likely to move on at the end of the season.
